CVS Building

MArch 7th Vote

Give Rec a Home!

KEEP THE CVS BUILDING OPEN & MAINTAINED FOR RECREATION

In 2022, Castleton residents voted 83% in favor (544 to 111) of having the town buy back the Castleton Village School from the Slate Valley School District. On the same ballot, Castleton voters also approved (415 to 245) the funding for a new full time Recreation Director position.

The Castleton Recreation Department’s mission statement is “to improve the quality of life for all residents by continually developing a wide range of programs and leisure activities for all ages, income levels, and interests.”  For over 40 years the Rec has offered popular, quality programs, without a physical space to call its own.  Occupying the Castleton Village School will allow the Recreation Department to thrive, expand and fulfill their mission to serve.

On March 7,2023, we ask you to vote “YES” again. This time for Article 36:Shall the Town appropriate $90,519 for the annual operating cost of the former Castleton Village School so it can be used for Recreation programming? (Not in the budget) (With the expectation that the town of Hubbardton pay its contractually mandated 11% share of said expenses).” The Hubbardton contribution will be approximately $9,000+.

The new Recreation Director, Bo Elliot Ramos, has been extremely busy since coming on board. Bo has become point person for getting the building cleaned (Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped.), items left behind were organized and inventoried. Programming began soon after with K-2 and grade 3 & 4 basketball. Bo has also organized indoor walking opportunities for the residents and soon will offer court time for Pickleball.

There is unlimited programming potential for this building, Recreation has just begun to tap into it. Please let the Select Board know you want to see Castleton Recreation grow by voting YES on Article 36.
