Public Comment

K. Maher asked what the process is to be appointed to the Commission. She was told to submit a letter of interest to the SB to the attention of the Town Manager.

H. Kretzer addressed the Commission about the possibility of offering a Lacrosse (LAX) program in Castleton. She cited the lack of a choice of sports in the spring for middle school kids. She had done lots of research which identified other towns that offered LAX. Grants are available from equipment companies, and area coaches have said that they would help with development. Her idea was to have a “club” that would involve middle schoolers from the Slate Valley District.  After a long discussion the CRC agreed that this would be a good program providing there was enough interest to sustain the program for the future by providing a “feeder” program of upper elementary school youth to assure sustainability. There was discussion on having a “skills clinic” day to see what level of interest there is in the community. Big issues brought up were insurance and the high cost of outfitting both a boys and girls team. The CRC suggested that Ms. K approach the middle school with her idea.

Directors’ Report

A. Clapp summarized existing programming that needs to happen this spring and summer. Those mentioned are; tennis, sailing, pottery, theater. Sailing, pottery and theater were included in the summer camp as “pop up” activities.  Activities will be finalized if/when the grant is approved.
