Youth Sports

Soccer

Castleton soccer program joined with Slate Valley United for 3-4 level soccer. There are three

teams; one boys, one girls and one co-ed. It is reported from the coaches that things are going

well and the kids are having fun AND learning many soccer skills.

The K-2 level has one co-ed team and practices once per week and plays one game per week. This level will end mid-October.

Crystal Beach

The beach is completely closed for the season. Financial data will not be available until about the second week in October.

Old Business 6:15

CVS Building Discussion – M. Clifford reported on a conversation she had with the Select Board Chairman about the status of the “proposed” sale. There has been a contract offered to ABC Daycare. The ABC Daycare made a counter offer. The select board returned another counter offer. ABC Daycare has not communicated back to the select board. The original contract did not include a “buy” option, but just a two-year lease.

The current circulating petition to have both select boards (Castleton & Hubbardton) rescind their original vote to sell CVS building and to hold it in towns’ possession for a period of three years. During that time Castleton Recreation will design programming that would make it near or self-supporting. M. Droege stated that Pat Schroeder, Sue Day, and Dianne Spangenberg have been VERY active collecting signatures and the Transfer Station and the Library. THANK YOU.

Due to the lack of movement on the contracts the 30 days window to gather needed signatures has not begun. That will start as soon as there is movement on the contract. All present members took petitions and would get as many signatures as they could.

Rec Director – No Change

                M. Clifford reported that there are no active applications for the Rec Director. The town

manager is exploring local (Castleton University) avenues for new candidates.  She will speak to the town manager to stress the importance of keeping this job search active and in public notice.
