Old Business – Election of Officers

            M. Clifford will continue to be Chairperson

Housekeeping will continue with M. Clifford completing the meeting minutes. No other officers are needed at this time.

Reminders were given for all Commissioners check with K. Stuart to see when each term will expire.

Department Updates (as necessary) - None

Director’s Report - Programming Update – B.E. Ramos

Currently Running – Walk with Ease (w/ Castleton Senior Ctr), 5 Sessions of Pickleball, Yoga (room rental status), K-2 and 3-4 soccer. There are a total of 33 Castleton players in the Slate Valley United Division.

  • K-2 is an instructional level
  • 3-4 teams play in the Slate Valley United Team which is a member of the Rutland Recreation soccer program

The Commission is not satisfied with SVU and is exploring other league options for the 2024 season. There is some outstanding monies owed to D. Carabino, SVU organizer which will be taken care of with the following motion.

Motion by N. LaFrancois “The Castleton Recreation Commission will pay Dave Carabino/SVU $351.00 for 39 players’ fees and suspending any further payment because goods and services were not received to our satisfaction.” 2nd by M. Hall, so voted.

Update on CVS Building

Z. Hale of Hale Resources, LLC made a presentation to the Select Board, in executive session. (Since it was in executive session there is no discussion here.) There was no motion coming out of executive session. Z. Hale did forward M. Clifford a copy of the presentation which was shared with the Commission. The Commission did not indorse the presentation and will reach out to Mr. Hale and the Select Board to express their ideas, once again.

New Business

M. Droege is partnering with VSU Castleton to sponsor 3 “game & Rec Nights at the Recreation Center in October and November. University students will organize games and run activities through one of their classes.

Organization for winter basketball is beginning. M. Hall will coach the 3-4 girls’ team and Kyle Mason will coach the boys team. A. Stockwell volunteered to be “Team Parent” to help with the communication needs.

M. Droege motioned to meet 10/10, 10/17, & 10/24 for Commission training on HeyGov and needed skills/information to ease the transition for a new Rec Director. A. Stockwell 2nd. So voted

Executive Session – M. Clifford motioned (7:22) for ES on a personnel matter. M. Hall motioned to exit ES (7:25) with no action taken.
