Castleton Recreation Commission – Meeting Minutes Feb. 7, 2023

Present: Bo, Matt, Ann, Mary D., Pat Schroeder, Mary McIntyre

Members Absent: M. Clifford, M. Parsons-Rosario, A. Lee Stockwell, M. Hall

Held: Castleton Village School 5:30-7:30pm

Youth Sports:

Basketball is going well and ends at the end of February. There will be an end of season celebration. We were able to offer a free team photo, families paid for individual photos.

Baseball/softball:

Bo is working with DPW to fix fields, fixing dugout fencing and removing old playground equipment. Rutland County LL will also help get the fields ready. Coaches are excited about the possibility of indoor practices in the gym if needed due to weather. Castleton Lion Club is sponsoring a team for $400!

New Programing:

Indoor walking started on 2/7 and 12 people came and had a great time. Lots of enthusiasm!!

Book Fair – Saturday 2/11, can anyone also attend to help Bo?

Pickleball – Mary M. is the lead. It will start Sunday 2/19 from 9-11am. There will be a walk through scheduled before this (let us know the date for that).

We need photos and video of all of these activities for the promotional video!

Communication plan for the March 7th vote

  • CU students are helping with a promotional video. We need statements of support. The deadline for getting these is Feb. 14th. They can be written or audio or video.
  • We can re-purpose some of the lawn signs from last year. We have 15. We need the most visible/prominent locations. Matt, Ann and Mary M all offered to host a sign.
  • We are finalizing the flyer and talking points. We need volunteers to give out flyers at the transfer station on Saturdays – there are only four left before Town Meeting Day! Pat and Mary are going this Sat 9-11.
  • Martha will be the lead on FPF posts, once we have our flyer and talking points finalized.

Monday Feb. 13 – everyone is encouraged to attend the SB meeting at 7pm in the Fire station meeting room. Rec will ask the SB to state if they will honor the will of the voters if the vote passes and take the building off the market.

Respectfully Submitted,

Mary Droege
