Potential severe storm. Green Mountain Power is prepared.

The storm that hit Vermont yesterday evening exceeded meteorologist predictions, both in severity and duration across the northeast. GMP was prepared for the forecast with crews and contractors on site yesterday and are bringing in more external crews today. Yesterdays storm brought severe wind, lightning, and lots of precipitation in Southern and Central Vermont, causing outages. GMP has doubled their field force with crews from Maine, New Hampshire, New York, and Massachusetts, and crews won’t stop until all are back on. As of this morning, crews have restored power to about 16,000 customers, and are working to repair damage for the remaining 8,000 customers.

Forecasts are predicting additional severe weather this afternoon and evening, with the potential for additional outages when that weather hits Vermont. That means that areas that were restored last night, and this morning could see additional damage later today. Please be sure to stay away from downed power lines and reach out to Green Mountain Power if you need information or support.
