Change to Emergency Dispatch Services

Residents Take Notice

Castleton Police Department Announcement

July 1, 2022

Attention residents:  The Castleton Police Department’s non-emergency line 802-468-5012 that was assigned to forward to a Vermont Department of Public Safety (DPS) Dispatch Center will no longer be available after July 4, 2022.  Due to the staffing issues and the call volume statewide at Vermont Department of Public Safety Dispatch Centers, Vermont DPS ceased non-emergency dispatch operations with non-state organizations (e.g., municipal police departments, fire departments, and other EMS services).

If you have an emergency continue to call 911 (any active incidents), and if you need to leave a message to an officer on duty or schedule a meeting with an officer you call the CPD non-emergency line 468-2750.

The Town of Castleton is upgrading to a new digital phone system that will meet the needs of each department and provide better call services to residents. As for the dispatch services, all emergencies will continually be dispatched by the State Dispatch Center in Westminster, VT.  Castleton partnered with other Rutland County municipal police, fire, and EMS agencies also impacted by these changes imposed on us by the Vermont Department of Public Safety and formed a work group.  This group is in the early stages of creating possibilities for quality dispatch services that the State of Vermont will no longer perform for municipal organizations.  We apologize for the inconvenience and short notice. Castleton will continue to provide emergency and community services for its residents. If you have any questions, please contact Police Chief Peter Mantello at (802) 468-2750.
