Recreation Director

Castleton Town Ballot March 1st

ARTICLE 29 - FOR A FULL-TIME RECREATION DIRECTOR FOR CASTLETON

The Recreation Commission is, basically, a volunteer board charged with the development, management and expansion of recreation opportunities for Castleton residents of all ages.

  • It was commissioned in the early 1970’s with its own set of by-laws and has been providing recreational opportunities ever since.
  • In 1998, amended to 6-9 members. However, our numbers have never reached full status and, more often than not, the Commission has less than 6 members.
  • Commission members that run activities that organize and supervise programs receive a stipend as does the Commission chair.
  • Commission meets once per month year-round.
  • Castleton Recreation Commission offers more programming than most of neighboring communities our size.
  • Providing recreational opportunities to our community has become too big for volunteers.
  • All members work which limits the hours for recreation work.

A Recreation Director would increase the opportunity for securing grants which would increase recreation opportunities at no additional cost to taxpayers.
