The Town Accountant performs varied accounting duties and is responsible for the overall financial management system. Responsible for central accounting, assisting with budgeting and financial forecasting, as requested. Maintains billing & timely collection of miscellaneous Town revenue, as well as accounts having special fund characteristics (grants, donations). Exercises sound judgment in maintaining the general books of accounts in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Prepares monthly and annual adjusting entries. Keeps in communication with CPA firm responsible for annual Town audit as needed and participates in annual audit as required. Inter-departmental cooperation and teamwork is expected on an ongoing basis. Directly supervises duties of Accounting Clerk. The incumbent is cross trained to complete basic cash receipting functions of Tax Collector’s Secretary in her/his absence, to ensure timely deposits for Town Treasurer. Responsible for weekly payroll processing, annual audits, single audits, and managing state/federal grants.

This position plays a critical role in maintaining financial accuracy, compliance, and efficient HR processes within the organization. Additionally, the incumbent will be actively involved in HR onboarding tasks ensuring new hires have a positive and informative experience. As a non-union employee, subject to all applicable policies, procedures, rules, and laws that apply to all municipal employees. This is a full time position with benefits. Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred. Pay is based on skills and experience.
