ALERT: VERMONT RED FLAG FIRE WARNING
WILDFIRE SEASON BEGINS

The National Weather Service has issued a RED FLAG FIRE WARNING in effect from 10 AM this morning until 8 PM this evening for low relative humidity and gusty winds affecting lower elevations of Southern Vermont.

* Affected Area: Fire Weather Zone 036 Southern Taconics and Fire Weather Zone 038 Lower Connecticut Valley South.

*Winds: West 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

*Relative Humidity: 20 to 30 percent.

* Temperatures: In the mid to upper 60s.

*IMPACTS: Dry vegetation combined with gusty winds and low relative humidity (RH) will promote the potential for rapid fire spread with any fires that may start.

Instructions: A RED FLAG WARNING means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Please contact your Fire Warden for Individual burn permit information. Allow 24 hours for burn permit response.
