Call 911 when it is an emergency requiring immediate response from the police, fire or ambulance and where a person’s life is or could be in immediate danger. Examples are a crime in progress, an assault, a fight, a robbery or theft, etc; a fire in a commercial building, house or car; a gas leak; or a medical emergency like a heart attack, stroke or car crash with injuries.

For non-emergency police help, you can call the non-emergency number, (802) 468-2750. Using the non-emergency number keeps 911 available for true emergencies. The non-emergency number can be used to report a situation that does not pose an immediate threat to life, bodily injury, or major property damage or loss, a situation that does not require an immediate police response, or to report an offense where the suspect is no longer at the scene.
