Message regarding the Coronavirus for all Castleton Residents

Dear Castleton residents,

The COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus situation is extremely fluid and changes daily, if not hourly. The State of Vermont did activate their Emergency Operations Center and continues to provide municipalities with updates and guidance. The message has been heard by many because it is difficult to find hand sanitizer in stores.

Protect yourself and your community from getting and spreading respiratory illnesses like coronavirus. Everyone has a role to play in getting ready and staying healthy. Learn how to prepare and take action at home, school, large community events and more by following CDC guidance. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has an extremely informative website. I encourage everybody to visit the website at https://www.cdc.gov/ to be better informed on what risk mitigation measures you can take to reduce the risk you will be infected with the COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus. Here is a direct link to a document on the CDC website that is informative: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/downloads/community-mitigation...

The Vermont Department of Health website also updates the situation happening here in Vermont each day as it pertains to the Novel Coronavirus. They also have a "Frequently Asked Questions" area that is informative, dispels myths, and provides guidance as it pertains to staying healthy. I recommend visiting their website at before taking actions that are based on rumors. https://www.healthvermont.gov/response/infectious-disease/2019-novel-cor...

I am working on a Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) and identifying mission essential functions, regardless of the circumstances. There is no reason to activate our Emergency Operations Center at this time, nor do I see it necessary in the immediate future. If you think you have been exposed to somebody with the Coronavirus follow the guidance put out by the CDC and the Vermont Department of Health. If you are returning from China, Italy, Iran, South Korea or Japan: Call Health Department Epidemiology at 802-863-7240. If you are ill, have symptoms, or concerned about your health: Call your health care provider. If you have questions about COVID-19: Dial 2-1-1. It is encouraged you visit the CDC and Vermont Department of Health websites to educate yourself on this virus, signs and symptoms, and what steps to take to protect yourself.

Stay vigilant, pay attention to your surroundings, follow good hygiene protocols, listen to the experts, and you reduce the risk of becoming infected.
